The holiday season is over, 2012 is but a distant memory, and the new year has begun. Now is the best time for investors to add money to an existing IRA account. If you currently don’t have one, you might want to consider opening a new account. Whether you are doing a rollover IRA, or creating a new IRA account, the money can be used to supplement your other retirement options. I’ve done the research and gathered up the best IRA investment promotions for you.

Betterment – $25 Refer-A-Friend
I was disappointed that while Betterment is a great service, their $25 signup promotion did not apply to IRA accounts. In talking with Betterment, I found out it is possible to still get the $25 bonus through a backdoor method. To qualify, you must use the refer-a-friend offer from an existing customer.
Since I am an existing customer all you need to do is click on the link below, and then deposit $500 into a new IRA account to qualify for the bonus. According to Betterment, the $25 bonus won’t be automatically applied to your IRA account. But they are happy to manually apply, once you’ve made the initial deposit of $500 or more, and send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lending Club IRA
Open up a no fee IRA account with Lending Club. Peer-to-peer Lending Club members have averaged 9.64% annualized returns. In my taxable Lending Club account, I’ve personally averaged over 10.50% for the past three years. Lending Club is an alternative to other fix income investments with low annual returns. For details on the terms, click on the link below. Lending Club profits are taxed as ordinary income, and you are best to open a tax differed IRA account.
TradeKing No-Fee IRA
TradeKing low ($4.95 a stock trade) commission fees. Combined with the tax deferment of an IRA, the low commission rates is a perfect way to come out ahead with your investments. Unlike many other discount brokers, TradeKing allows some option strategies in their IRA accounts. If transferring from an existing brokerage, you can get reimbursed up to $150.
optionXpress, who was acquired by Charles Schwab, offers a no minimum balance IRA. You can trade any type of limited-risk options including covered calls, debit & credit spreads, and cash secured short puts trade your Roth, Traditional, Rollover, SIMPLE, or SEP IRA.
Discover Bank IRA CD
Open a Discover Bank traditional or Roth IRA CD. There’s no monthly maintenance fees and guaranteed returns via FDIC insurance. Open an account with as little as $2,500. Terms are from 3 months to 10 years with competitive CD rates.
