Weekend Reading for July 22, 2011

Are you suffering from the soaring heat?  This week was a hot one, not just in terms of temperatures.  The debate over the debt ceiling continues, and, perhaps as a result, the price of gold went above $1,600 for the first time.  It is still not as high as it was in 1980 after the price is adjusted for inflation, but it is noteworthy.

Here is what I am reading this weekend:

Generating Income from Your Own Pension Plan: Do Not Wait. Saving enough for retirement is only part of the battle.  The other part is making that money work for you in retirement so it lasts.

Politically Incorrect. HistoryJohn Stossel’s Take.  Tune in this weekend for an examination of many of our political beliefs that are actually incorrect.

Modern Poverty Includes A.C. and an Xbox: National Review.  The U.S. Census Bureau paint a vastly different picture of poverty than most of us might think.

A Dodd-Frank Retreat Deserves a Veto: The Wall Street Journal.  For a bit of humor, I thought I would include this post.

Cisco Will Cut 6,500 Workers, Record 1.3 Billion in Costs: Bloomberg. Yet another company shedding jobs.  And the economy is supposed to be improving.
